Domestic abuse comes in many forms and 39% of incidents involve alcohol. Sadly research shows that during major sporting events incidents of domestic abuse increase because people are drinking more.
A WRU spokesman said: "The playing and broadcasting of Wales rugby matches do not in themselves cause people to become violent.
"However, as a union, we are deeply concerned about this situation we have decided to use the profile of Welsh rugby to highlight this important issue."
Jones, with more than 30 caps to his name, said: "The campaign is using the recognised White Ribbon symbol as a focal point and I encourage all rugby supporters to back this important campaign."
