Gareth Jenkins honoured at Stradey Park's last game

He was part of the fabric of Stradey Park both as a player and a coach since he first played for Llanelli against Harlequins away on 20th September 1969, so it was a fitting tribute to honour his contribution on such an important evening in the Scarlets history.

Gareth was honoured for his dedication and commitment to Llanelli and the Scarlets for close to 40 years.

He made a total of 259 appearances in a Scarlets shirt scoring 50 tries. His last full season was 1979/1980 although he did come out of retirement for one game in 1986.

Although a great player, it's for his coaching prowess that he will be best remembered. During his time as coach honours included:
• 8 times WRU Cup Final winners
• 3 times WRU Cup Final Runners-up
• 3 times WRU League Champions
• WRU Challenge Trophy Winners
• Celtic League Champions 2004
• Celtic Cup Final Runners Up 2005
• Powergen Cup Final Runners up 2006
• European Cup Semi Finalists in 2000 & 2002

As a coach from 1982 and Director of Rugby with the Scarlets for 2003-2004 he was in charge of the club and Region in 937 games winning 640, drawing 25 and losing 271 - with one game abandoned. His combined playing and coaching career gives him a staggering total of 1,196 matches for Llanelli and the Scarlets.

Now taking his expertise, passion, enthusiasm and knowledge of the region into his role as the Scarlets Head of Regional Development and Recruitment, Gareth Jenkins is still making a major mark in how the Scarlets' future will develop.
