Ken, who grew up in Carmarthen and whose Dad, Delme is a former Carmarthen Athletic RFC rugby player, said: “I got the call last week to join the Wales training camp and it was great experience and I was delighted to be involved.
“It’s a new type of training environment for me to get used to and it was a bit of a challenge at first, getting to grips with the different calls but it was really good to be part of it and a great experience for me.”
Owens will be training back with the Scarlets this week in the run-up to their big Magners League visit to Leinster in Dublin on Saturday evening. He will then join-up with Wales again next Monday ahead of the Six Nations Wales v France game at the Millennium stadium on Friday February 26th.
And on the chance of getting his first Wales cap, with Scarlets colleague Matthew Rees and Cardiff Blues hooker Gareth Williams both on the injury list for Wales at present, Owens was typically focused on his regional performance.
“It’s really important that I perform well for the Scarlets out in Leinster this weekend and then we will see. It’s going to be a tough one for us to go out to Dublin and we have learnt hard lessons against Leinster twice already this season, but we will be focused trying to put that right,” he said.
“I really enjoyed my time with the national set-up and I’m getting a lot out of my rugby this season, it’s been good to have lots of game time and get regular starts for my region.
“We are definetly moving on as a squad and there is something really good building and developing here at Parc y Scarlets.”
Scarlets Head Coach Nigel Davies said: “Ken has been staking a strong claim for international honours this season, he is playing some superb rugby and he is playing it consistently and we are pleased for him that he will have an opportunity to show what he is capable of at national level.”
The Scarlets next home match is against Ulster in the Magners League on Friday March 5th kick off 7.05pm.
