The evening will consist of a sumptuous three-course meal, tales of rugby's golden era, live Q&A, raffle and auction. Proceeds to our chosen charity Velindre.
Andrew Morris Head of Fundraising at Velindre Cancer Centre said "It's great news that the rugby community are continuing to support cancer patients in Wales; our original Kilimanjaro Captains Climb 2 years ago with 15 Welsh Rugby Captains was a huge success."
"We are delighted that the Sir Colin Meads evening will be supporting Velindre's Kilimanjaro Trek with Legends, which will include The Events Room Director Mark Shepherd and both Shane and Martyn Williams. Money raised from the evening will contribute towards our work supporting cancer patients and their families in Wales."
Sir Colin was more than just the most famous forward in world rugby, he is regarded by many as New Zealand's greatest ever rugby player, and was named Player of the Centuryat the NZRFU Awards dinner in 1999. He is a member of both the International Rugby Hall of Fame and the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame.
Sir Colin went on to make a then world record 55 appearances for the All Blacks. His strength and high threshold for pain became legendary - best illustrated when in a game against Eastern Transvaal in South Africa, in which he emerged from a particularly vicious ruck with his arm dangling horribly, with an obvious fracture, yet completed the match. When the doctor cut away his shirt and confirmed the break, Meads muttered, "At least we won the bloody game."
He was later, in 1971 awarded an MBE for his services to rugby.
Your host for the evening will be none other than Phil Kingsley Jones. Phil received worldwide recognition as former manager and mentor of rugby sensation JONAH LOMU. In his own right, Phil is now regarded as being one of the most sought after speakers in the southern hemisphere.
Many former Welsh Internationals are likely to be present for what promises to be an unforgettable night for everyone fortunate enough to attend.
