Scarlet’s U16 Season 2009/2010
The selection for the Scarlet’s U16 squad started back in March, when 56 names were put forward by the development officers from the various district school boy teams.
Head coach Rob Walters is keen to maintain the success from last season, where 14 of the squad gained national honours, and the team narrowly lost in the regional final. This year he is assisted by Deiniol Evans (backs coach) and Mark O’Kelly (forward coach).
After a few training sessions, a trial was held at Carmarthen Athletic RFC. The overall standard was good, with a few players standing out. Dylan Morgan, Will Lewis and Daniel Thomas made strong claims for selection. The squad was then reduced to 38.
During the months of June and July the squad will training twice a week at Parc Y Scarlet’s where they will be tested, receive skills and conditioning coaching and advice on drugs, nutrition and decision making.
Towards the end of July the a final of squad 28 boys will be chosen. The squad will then play two warm up games, one of which is Leicester academy. They will also attend a 3 day training camp, before the regional competition starts on the 30th of August.
