Nigerian born Ajuwa broke on to the Welsh regional rugby scene on the 8th November 2009, having been drafted in to the Scarlets squad for their LV= Cup fixture against the Harlequins, from one of the region’s feeder clubs, Llandovery RFC.

“Smokin’ Joe” went on to play another four games for region during the 2009-10 season and impressed the coaching set-up. In June 2010 Ajuwa signed a contract which would see him become a full time member of the Scarlets squad.

Before joining Llandovery RFC, and later the Scarlets, Ajuwa spent time with Leicester Tigers, Richmond and London Welsh.

Ajuwa was educated at Kingswood School, Bath before going on to study Business Management at St Mary’s College, Twickenham.

He was nominated for Principality Player of the Year 2009-10 by the WRU for his performances with Llandovery.
