Ioan Cunningham

Set Piece Coach

Former Llanelli RFC and Scarlets player Ioan Cunningham is the current Set Piece Coach at Parc y Scarlets. Cunningham is now part of the senior coaching group after working closely with the Scarlets Academy. Born in Carmarthen and a former pupil of Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, Cunningham first joined the Scarlets in 2000 when he was part of the region's inaugural Academy year group, combining his training with a HND in Sports Science from Coleg Sir Gar. Cunningham made 105 appearances for Llanelli RFC and captained the side that lifted the SWALEC Cup in 2005 against Pontypridd. He also made 4 appearances for the Scarlets and scored one try in a friendly match in Slovenia. Cunningham represented Wales U16 and Wales U18, being captain of the side in 2001.

Cunningham started his current role at Parc y Scarlets in January 2011 after spending two seasons as Elite Youth Development Manager with the Ospreys, where he managed the Academy. His main responsibilities are to run and deliver key principal skills to the Scarlets Academy. In the past two seasons he has worked with the likes of Kirby Myhill, Samson Lee, Aled Davies and Rhodri Jones, who have gone on to establish themselves in the main Scarlets squad. In addition to his role at the Scarlets, he has also been part of the coaching teams for the Wales U18 and U20 sides.
